The healthcare desk

Persistently tight / 2026-Q3

The one market where scarcity is structural rather than cyclical. Registers and collective agreements shape every placement, the client is budget-bound, and the candidate relationship is the desk's whole asset.

What makes this desk different

Cycle times, fee norms, and where the candidates actually are. The generalities of recruitment hold everywhere; these are the parts that do not.

01

Scarcity is structural

Healthcare shortage does not move with the economy: demand is demographic and rises for another decade, which is what the projections below measure. That inverts the desk. The scarce side is the candidate, permanently, so the desk that treats candidates as a pool to draw from empties it, and the desk that invests in the relationship owns the market.

02

Registers and cao's shape the work

BIG registration, diplomas, and the collective agreements decide who may work where and at what salary. Compliance checks are part of the process, and salary is largely fixed by the cao band, so the conversation that moves a candidate is about roster, team, travel, and development rather than money. Selling on salary is selling the one thing the desk cannot deliver.

03

The client is budget-bound

Care institutions buy under budget pressure and often through procurement, which changes the fee conversation: framework agreements, rate caps, and volume matter more than the single placement fee. Continuity models sit close by, with the shift toward flexible work and ZZP'ers in care changing what clients ask for from one year to the next.

What to practice on this desk

The healthcare desk trains the candidate side hardest. Three skills pay for themselves first:

The candidate intake. Motive, roster limits, and registration status surfaced early decide whether the process survives its first obstacle.

What an intake covers

Expand inside the cao band. Expectations on salary are managed against the band from the first call, so the offer confirms rather than surprises.

What the Expand phase is

WRIOC on the budget objection. "There is no budget" is the market's default opening, and it has a structure like any other objection.
