Recruitment training for HR teams in France

French hiring is decided before the CDI is signed: in the brief, in a trial period that can run eight months for a cadre, and in an offer conversation about a package rather than a number. IPMERC trains and scores those conversations, and France is in its research.

France hires on two contracts and one long look. A permanent CDI carries a trial period of two months for employees and four for cadres, renewable once where the branch agreement allows, so a senior hire can be on trial for eight months. Notice for a cadre commonly runs three months. The process is slow to reverse, which is why the conversations before signature matter more here than in most markets.

Compensation is a package: gross annual salary, sometimes over thirteen months, a mutuelle, meal vouchers, RTT days and, for cadres, a status conversation as much as a salary one. Recruitment cabinets commonly charge between 15 and 25 percent of gross annual salary. Interviews are formal, often several, and a candidate expects a structured account of the role before they will discuss leaving a CDI.

IPMERC is a training and knowledge platform for those conversations, and France is one of the nine regions the research unit covers. Programs take a recruiter from foundations to advanced, exercises are scored against a framework phase, and the knowledge base answers the mid-call question in seconds.

How hiring conversations run here.

The four places the local process puts its weight, and the framework phase that carries each one.

01

The brief is where a French search is won.

A recruiter who takes a brief at face value searches for a CV. One who interrogates it finds out why the last person left, what the manager will reject on and what the package can move on. That is the probe phase, and it is the most used entry in the catalogue.

02

A candidate on a CDI needs a reason, not a pitch.

Leaving a permanent contract for a trial period is a risk a French candidate weighs carefully. Selling the role before knowing what would make the risk worth it is how strong candidates say no politely. FAB, paired to the motivation the recruiter surfaced, is the difference.

03

The package conversation has structure. Use it.

Thirteen months, variable, mutuelle, RTT and status are an argument when each is paired to something the candidate said they valued, and a list when they are not. The exercises rehearse the package conversation until it runs as an argument.

04

Cabinet fees and the exclusivity question.

Between 15 and 25 percent of gross annual salary, success fee or retained, and every client asks for less or for three cabinets on the role. The fee objection follows the same pattern as the salary objection, and cabinets train it here with a score.

What IPMERC does for a team here, and what it does not.

Said plainly, so the first visit is not the only one.

France is in the research.

IPMERC Research reads Eurostat's French vacancy and labour cost series and publishes cross-country papers that include France. IPMERC Futures scores French cells beside Dutch, Belgian and German ones. A French HR team gets the training and a live view of its own market's evidence.

English and Dutch catalogue, French pages, same time zone.

The catalogue is in English and Dutch. This page and the role pages exist in French so a French team can see what the method is; the training itself is followed in English. Live sessions are planned per team, in the same time zone.

Euro pricing, VAT handled at checkout.

Prices are in euros, excluding VAT. VAT is applied at checkout at the French rate, or reverse-charged on a valid VAT number for a business customer. The Enterprise tier is on contract with a 12-month minimum.

Labour market research: France

Questions from HR teams in France.

Is the training available in French?

Not today. The catalogue is in English and Dutch. The role pages and this page are in French so a French team can judge the method in its own language. On the Enterprise tier, custom entries can be authored in French alongside our team.

Does IPMERC cover French labour law?

No. Trial periods, notice, branch agreements and the rules of the entretien are your legal team's domain. IPMERC trains the conversations inside the process.

What French market data is on the site?

The Futures cells for France, scored from Eurostat series the research unit watches, and the research papers that compare France with its neighbours. Every figure names its source and its reference period.

Same frameworks, same scores, wherever you hire.
